Playful Learning Pediatric Therapy is hosting Marti Smith, OTR/L who is a ChildTrauma Academy Fellow, creator of the KALMAR trauma-based assessment tool, a TBRI Travis County Collaborative educator, and co-founder of Simple Sparrow Care Farm.

This will be an open house event where parents and caregivers can learn from this resource, meet some of our providers and see our current treatment space and plans for our future space. Training hours provided for foster parents.

Helping Kids From Hard Places:
-Identify ways trauma affects the sensory system and “at home” ways to help
-Discover KALMAR, a ten-minute tool that identifies trauma compassionate activities to remediate issues with sleep, impulsiveness, eating, relationships, fine and gross motor skills, and reading.
-Explore how to view “problem behaviors” through a trauma compassionate lens to decrease frustration and improve outcomes.

This community training follows a two-day intensive trauma training for all of Playful Learning Pediatric Therapy staff to increase our trauma awareness and trauma-informed care.

This will be a minimum of 2 hours of Marti presenting to us and then light snacks and conversation to follow.

Due to the location, space is limited and RSVP is highly suggested.
